Spam Filter and Anti-Virus Services:
This server uses SpamAssassin and ClamAV for scanning all email.Email Client Setup Information:
SpamAssassin scans your email and takes an educated guess (using a Bayesian scanner) as to whether the email message is spam or not. If it determines that the email is spam, it will flag it by changing the subject of the email to include "*** PROBABLY SPAM ***" so that you can easily spot it.
The SpamAssassin Bayesian scanner learns about spam by scanning email messages that are known spam, and identifying common trends. Likewise, it scans know non-spam (aka 'ham') messages and learns the trends for non-spam messages as well. The combination of these is a reasonably accurate guess as to which messages are spam and which are not. Please keep in mind that it is only a guess, and that false positives (non-spam that is misinterpreted as spam) and false negatives (spam that is not interpreted to be spam) can still occur.
Because the possibility exists for false positives, we provide a Whitelist Manager which you can use to maintain a list of email addresses that should not be marked as spam. The whitelist manager uses your postmaster password. In the event that you receive messages marked as spam that are not spam, adding the sender's address to your whitelist will ensure that all future emails from that person will not be marked as spam.
For those who are technically inclined, or just curious, here is a reference page about how effective/accurate SpamAssassin's Bayesian filtering is: http://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/BayesAccuracy.
To keep your inbox clean, all modern email programs (including MS Outlook) will let you create a mail filter so that any email messages containing a certain subject can be automatically added to a different folder. Instructions on how to do this in MS Outlook are available here.
The ClamAV service automatically scans all emails (and attachments) for known viruses. If a virus is found, the message is attempted to be cleaned. If the message cannot be cleaned, it is removed from the system so it will not be delivered to your inbox.
This mail server supports POP3 and IMAP connections. When setting up your pop3 or imap client, use the below server/connection information. Please note that the 'username' for POP3 and IMAP connections contains your domain name.
Using IMAP supports the creation of folders to organize your email. Refer to this guide for help on setting up standard email clients to talk to this mail server. For additional help, please contact Tech Support.
